Directions: Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it.

India is a great book producing nation and has a vibrant world of book publishing spread throughout the vast country in a number of modern languages most of which have their roots in Sanskrit, the mother of Indian languages. In terms of numbers, there are more than 16,000 publishers in India publishing 90,000 titles annually in 24 languages, out of which 18 are highly developed, to fulfill the needs of this multilingual nation. These languages have a galaxy of good authors, their own publishers and readers of books within their own area as well as spread out in the entire country. Today Indian publishing is one of the greatest in the world and can be counted among the first seven publishing nations. We are the third largest publishers of English language Books after the US and UK. India is the third biggest market for English publications with almost 12,000 publishers that publish around 90,000 titles a year in more than 18 languages. India’s main publishing is in the Indian languages. In India, every year a world level Book fair is held in New Delhi, which is India’s oldest book fair Delhi Book Fair is playing a pivotal role in reiterating the might of the pen and the printed word and has come to be recognised as the biggest annual cultural event and book bonanza keenly awaited by students, teachers, scholars, authors, intellectuals, librarians and book lovers. First New Delhi World Book Fair Was held in around 6790 sq. meter area with 200 participants from March 18 to April 4, 1972. It was inaugurated by Sh V.V. Giri President of India. This biennial event takes place in early February, and is organized by the National Book Trust, India (NBT). Delhi Book Fair has evolved over the years as a highly popularconduit to the world of books and publishers and distributors. The ever increasing numbers of visitors and exhibitors speaks volumes of its success. The fair provides a unique platform for business-to-business transactions, establishing new contacts, entering into co-publishing arrangements, translation and copyright arrangements, reprinting of old and rare books. The visitor profile at the fair includes national and International publishers, librarians, researchers, academicians, writers, students and book lovers Publishers also introduced “e-Books” in this fair. This focus is being given especially keeping in mind the increasing number of IT-savvy younger generation with a penchant for internet, mobile phones and other reader-friendly digital gizmos.

E-books and e-publishing both has their obvious advantages though authors in India have only just begun to realize the immense benefits digital technology can be of in this field. Also, with the country being the third biggest publisher — after the US and UK — the potential in this field is immense and the response too has been quite encouraging so far with a lot of publishers already showing interest in e-publishing. E-publishing is a boon for both established and wannabe writers as it is cost effective and cuts down the time it take for a book to reach markets to about a fourth of what it would have taken had it been left to publishers to do the job. Other benefits include authors now have a world wide audience to their book which means better business while debugging or carrying out revisions too is a lot less hazardous. Another interesting development to have occurred in recent times is the launch of Amazon e-book store in the country as well as the availability of the Kindle range of e-book readers. Needless to say, a direct fallout of the renewed push that e-book are getting is increased sale of ebook readers and tablet devices.

Answers:

1. 4
Imports > Exports
Imports/Exports >1

2. 4
I/E = 0.7
E = I/0.7
= 51.688/0.7
73.84lakh

3. 2
Ia/Ea = 0.8
Ia = 0.8 * 84 = 67.2lakh
Ib/Eb = 0.9
Ib = 0.9 * 84 = 75.6lakh
Diff = 8.4 lakh

4. 2
Ia/Ea = 1.2
Ib/Eb = 0.9
Let export of A and B are X
Ia = 1.2x
Ib = 0.9x
Req% = 0.9x/1.2x * 100 = 75%

5. 3
I/E = 0.8
I1 = I +200I/100 = 3I
E1 = E + 100E/100 = 2E
Ratio = I1/E1 = 3I/2E = 3/2 * 0.8 = 1.2

6. 3
Let the original cost proce is x, so SP is
115x/100 = 23x/20
Now CP = x - 200
SP = 23x/20 - 200
Profit = 23x/20 - 200 - (x - 200) = 23x/20 - x = 3x/20
% Profit = 3x/20 * 1/(x - 200) * 100 = 20
3x/(x - 200) = 4
3x = 4x - 800
x = 800

7. 5
Let the rate of interest is r% p.a.
4200*r*3/100 + 6500*r*7/100 = 8134
126r + 455r = 8134
r = 8134/581 = 14% p.a.

8. 1
P (1 + R/100)^3 = 107811
p(1 + r/100)^2 = 98010

1 + r/100 = 107811/98010
r/100 = 9801/98010
r = 10%

P = (1 + 10/100)^2 = 98010
p = 98010 * 100/121 = 81000

9. 2
B _ _ _ _ _ _ G

Now 6 letters are left for six different place
Req No. of wages = 6P6 = 6! = 720

10. 3
n(S) = Number of ways of selecting 3 balls out of 7 = 7C3 = 7!/3!4! = 35

p(E) = 35/560 = 1/16

Directions: Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it.

Corruption is a broad term covering a wide range of misuse of entrusted funds and power for personal gain i.e. Theft, fraud, nepotism, abuse of power etc. A corrupt act is often - but not necessarily - illegal. In handling corruption you will often face a Gray zones and dilemmas. In many countries, corruption is everywhere and daily life is riddled with situations in the Gray zone between legal and illegal. Many people accept petty corruption as a fact of life. But the causes might differ, however, whether corruption results from a need, a culture or simply from an opportunity too tempting not to exploit, it influences the way we deal with it - or don’t deal with it. Corruption can occur on different scales. There is corruption that occurs as small favours between a small number of people (petty corruption), corruption that affects the government on a large scale (grand corruption), and corruption that is so prevalent that it is part of the every day structure of society, including corruption as one of the symptoms of organized crime (systemic corruption).

The main reason for the spread of corruption is that the people in the highest seat of power are corrupt unless the people at the top rung of power are honest and free from corruption; there is absolutely no possibility of eradicating corruption. If there is widespread corruption in India , it is because the people at the top are really corrupt .No subordinate will have to guts to be corrupt if the people at the top of the administration are honest and take stern action against the corrupt people .They can not be harsh to the corrupt people , since it is through the corrupt subordinates that the people at the top get their share of the bribes .If one can make a discrete enquiry with the pavement traders, he can find out how much the police and the corporation councillors collect from the pavement traders .They say that the money so collected is shared by people from the top to the bottom. If the head is corrupt, what will the limbs do? The causes of corruption in India also include excessive regulations, complicated taxes and licensing systems, numerous government departments each with opaque bureaucracy and discretionary powers, monopoly by government controlled institutions on certain goods and services delivery, and the lack of transparent laws and processes. There are significant variations in level of corruption as well as in state government efforts to reduce corruption across India. A 2005 study done by Transparency International in India found that more than 62% of the people had firsthand experience of paying bribe or peddling influence to get a job done in a public office.Taxes and bribes are common between state borders; Transparency International estimates that truckers pay annually 22,200 crores (US$ 4.5 billion) in bribes. Government regulators and police share in bribe money, each to the tune of 43% and 45% respectively. The en route stoppages including those at checkpoints and entry-points take up to 11 hours in a day. About 60% of these (forced) stoppages on road by concerned authorities such as government regulators, police, forest, sales and excise, octroi, weighing and measuring department are for extorting money. The loss in productivity due to these stoppages is an important national concern. The number of truck trips could increase by 40%, if forced delays are avoided. According to a 2007 World Bank published report, the travel time for a Delhi-Mumbai trip can be reduced by about 2 days per trip if the corruption and associated regulatory stoppages to extract bribes was eliminated.
