Answers:

1.What is the rate of interest per cent per annum?
I.An amount of Rs. 6200 fetches simple interest of Rs. 1736 in two years.
II.An amount of Rs. 4500 fetches compound interest of Rs. 1348.2 in two years.

1. (c) From statement I
1736=(6200 × 2 × R)/100=R⇒14%
From statement II
4500 + 1348.2 = 4500[1+R/100]^2
[1+R/100]^2=1.3⇒R≈14%
Hence, data in either statement I alone or statement II alone is sufficient.

2. How many marks did Nigam get in Biology?
I.Nigam got 42 marks in English which were half the marks he got in Biology.
II.Nigam’s marks in Biology were 14% of the total marks he got in all the subjects together.

2. (a) From statement I
Marks in Biology = 42 × 2 = 84
Hence, data in statement I alone is sufficient.

3. What is the speed of the boat in still water?
I.The boat travels at the speed of 4 km/h upstream.
II.The boat travels at the speed of 6 km/h downstream.

3. (e) From statement I
x – a = 4 km/h
From statement II
x + a = 6 km/h
∴ a = 1 km/h
Hence, data given in both statements are necessary.

4. What is the exact average of n, 35, 39, 42, p and w?
I.n is six more than w.
II.w is four less than p.

4. (d) From statement I
n = 6 + w
From statement II
w = p – 4
Hence, the data in both the statement are not sufficient.

5. What was the per cent profit/loss made/incurred by selling an article for Rs. 24000?
I.The ratio between the selling price and the cost price of the articles is 5 : 3 respectively.
II.The difference between the cost price and the selling price is Rs. 9600.

5. (a) SP = 24000
From statement I
SP/CP=5/3
CP = 144,00
∴ % profit =(24000 - 14400)/14000×100=68.5%
From statement II
It is not clear that CP is greater than or less than SP.
Hence, the data in statement I is sufficient.

6.What is the ratio between two numbers x and y?
I.40% of x is 20% of 50.
II.30% of y is 25% of 72.

6. (e) From statement I
40/100 x=20/100×50⇒x=25
From statement II
30/100×y=25/100×72⇒y=60
∴ x : y = 25 : 60 = 5 : 12
Hence, the data in both the statement are not sufficient.

7.What is the area of the circle?
I.The breadth of a rectangle is three-fourth the radius of the circle.
II.The radius of the circle is equal to the side of a square of area 144 sq cm.

7. (b) From statement I
b=3/4 r
From statement II
r=a=√144=12
∴ Area of circle =πr^2=144π
Hence, the data in statement II is sufficient.

8. What is Jyoti’s annual income?
I.Jyoti’s monthly income is Rs. 8500 more than Amit’s monthly income.
II.Rohit’s monthly income is Rs. 3.5 thousand which is half Amit’s monthly income.

8. (e) From both statements.
Jyoti’s income = Amit’s income + 8500
Amit’s income = 3.5×2=7000
∴ Jyoti’s income = 7000 + 8500 = 15,500

9.What will be Suraj’s age after eight years?
I.The ratio between Kamya’s and Suraj’s present age is 4 : 7 respectively.
II.Kamya is 15 yr yonger than Suraj.

9. (e) From both statements
K/S=4/7
K = S – 15 ⇒ S – 35
∴ S + 8 = 43

10.What is the minimum passing percentage in a test?
I.Raju scored 162 marks in a test and failed by 104 marks.
II.The maximum marks of the test are 538 more marks obtained by Raju.

10. (e) From statement I
Minimum passing marks = 162 + 104 = 266
From statement II
Maximum marks = 538 + 162 = 700
Required% =266/700×100=38%
Hence, data given in both statements are necessary
